Is there proof that Public Speaking is NOT more feared than Death?

If you are fearful about Public Speaking, you are not alone!
It hurts, you try to avoid situations where you may have to speak up.
Basically, it really cramps your lifestyle.
I know, that used to be me.

As quoted by comedian Jerry Seinfeld:

“According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking.
Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right?
This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

When you suffer from fear of public speaking it is not very funny !

So who completed these studies?
Or is it best to just ask your friends how they feel about speaking in public?

Stage Fright

Stage Fright !

Let’s see….
The original widely quoted study by R.H. Bruskin Associates research firm in 1973 asked over 2500 participants what their greatest fears were out of a list of 14. Public Speaking had the greatest number of responses, death was second.
It appears that is the only meaningful study every completed !  See: http://bit.ly/2eThx8D

The most up to date survey I found is a Gallup poll from 2001

Okay, that’s the background, so what can be done about it?

Big changes can be made – usually with ease.
Big changes are easy – when you have the right tools.
If you have an abject fear of speaking in public or being on video, then most conventional presentation training fails.
Why? Because they do not address the underlying causes of the fear and of course do not understand it because theirs was tiny.

I teach clients how to play games with the images and feelings associated with fearful situations.
Then they become manageable and can be transformed.
Then we build on the individual strengths as a speaker to help them perform and progress with ease.

Frequently it is like a “shazam” magical moment when the images and associated feelings change.
This experience is irreversible.
The internal “knowing” is there – forever.
From then on, confidence, communication and success are achievable; limitations and blockages can be a thing of the past.
Of course there may be many images and layers to play with, most of which can be easily changed in a positive way
